Since taking over The Harrow in July 2006, local couple Karen and Dave have continued to maintain the character of this charming 17th century, thatched, village pub. The grade II listed building, circa 1637, still retains many of the original features from its days as a coaching inn. The building boasts oak beams, natural stonewalling, two Inglenook fireplaces and a wealth of antiques. The interior is comfortably furnished and decorated in traditional English style. The Harrow Inn enjoys a reputation for serving good food with fine wines by the bottle or glass. Relax and enjoy your meal by candle light in either our village bar or dining room. Choose from our various lunchtime and evening menu boards and you will be served individually prepared meals at a good price. Our chef specials are always popular with locals and visitors alike. The reputation of The Harrow Inn is widely known. A regular venue for hosting traditional village events, including the Summer Show Carnival Procession and the Wanborough Beer Race. The pub is featured in both the Good Pub Guide and Wiltshire's top 100 Pub Guide, it has also been used by the BBC as a location for period filming. With such a long history, one can only guess at the events that may have taken place at The Harrow and what stories of bygone times were played out within its sturdy walls. Inevitably, a building of such antiquity will propagate stories of ghosts and apparitions and The Harrow is no exception. According to local legend the building is haunted by the ghost of Old Marlow, a stage coach driver, who crashed outside the inn and who is rumoured to wander the building late at night in his eternal search for his lost passengers. Whether you choose to believe these stories or dismiss them as idle fancy, is of course entirely up to you, but to this day strange events have taken place that defy explanation. If your curiosity has been aroused then ask a local or a member of staff and more may be revealed. During 2003 the Harrow was once more to feature on television. The pub was a film location for an ITV Carlton production "Yes Chef". A 10 part reality TV programme featuring Shaun, a young chef @ the Harrow Inn. The programme, soon to be repeated on ITV, features the Harrow team & young chefs from Westminster catering college treating the locals to a Caribbean feast. |
